LBCC Remote Desktop Setup Instructions for Mac
Windows Remote Desktop will provide you with your own Windows 11 virtual machine. The machine is assigned to you only, and has access to the local network here on the main campus without the need for a VPN on a domain-joined computer. You only need an internet connection.
The steps below outline how to set up and install the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection file and includes recommended/optional configuration.
- Go to the Apple App Store and download the Windows App:
Authorize the installation:
- When you see the welcome screen, click “Next” and proceed to the home screen (It will be mostly blank at this point):

- Open a web browser (these instructions were made using Chrome), and go to: https://ALB-RDS-02.linnbenton.edu/RDWeb
- In the ‘Domain\username’ field enter “LBCC\your X-number”, enter your password, and then click ‘Sign in’.

- Complete the DUO authorization on your smartphone or OTP device then click on the ‘RDS-RemoteDesktop’ icon on the home page.

- This will download a specific RDP connection file to your Downloads folder. Open your Downloads folder and look for the file named ‘cpub-RDS-RemoteDeskto-RDS-RemoteDeskto-MyDesktop’.

- Recommended:
Right-click the RDP file and select ‘Rename’ from the pop-up menu (If you are using a Windows 11 device, right-click the file, select ‘Properties’, then select ‘Rename’), and change the name to something you’ll recognize like ‘My Remote Desktop’ or similar, and paste it on your Desktop.
- If the file is not automatically assigned to open with the Windows App by default, right-click the file, select “Open with”, then select the Windows App (and set it as default).

- Optional: By default, the Remote Desktop connection will use all of your monitors for display. If you only want it on a single monitor, right-click the RDP connection file to open in a text editor, then go down to the line that says "use multimon:i:1" and change it to "use multimon:i:0". (ß Change the '1' to a '0'), then save the changes.

- When you are prompted for your credentials to log in to the Remote Desktop, enter your X-number and password. Note: If this is the first time logging in, the ‘Domain’ field may be blank. If that is the case, be sure to put “LBCC\” before your X-number. Then click ‘OK’.

- You may be presented with a certificate warning. Go ahead and hit continue to proceed.

- You’re in, and now you can use the Remote Desktop just like your work computer. Your Remote Desktop instance is identifiable by the bar at the top that shows the host server you are logged in to called “ALB-RDS-02.LBCC.LINNBENTON.EDU”.

- Recommended: To make it even more clear which desktop you are operating on, it’s a good idea to change your desktop wallpaper to something that you will recognize as belonging to the Remote Desktop, and not your client computer (your PC or laptop).
- Logging out: It is important to always log out when you are done working on your Remote Desktop, as this helps save bandwidth for other users on the host server. To log out, click the Windows Start button, click your username, then click ‘Sign out’.
