just kidding. a bit more.
So, i randomly found ONE USB-C to Display port cable on our pegboard. where and how it came to be is a mystery as we have a full case of USB-C to HDMI, nowhere has there ever been the display port unicorn.
I plug that into the blank monitor of Elizabeth's and bam, works straight away.
Maybe HDMI support is limited? bandwidth? type of hdmi cables? more research needed i suppose.
Anyway, more physical testing could be done if you want to order some USB-C to Display port cables. i'll bet they work more often than the HDMI ones.
Lena's Surface 8 setup is an old dock 1 with mini-display port to display port cables (old, old monitors though!). When on my test bench i could not for the life of me get her's to display 2 monitors, only one, using a dock 2. i finally said fuck it I'm going to just go plug it into her old dock 1 and , voila, it works great. wow. Could microsoft get more shit wrong or what.
Anyway...bottom line is USB-C to display port works. for now.
