Remote Access while working from home fix

Please see each step below as this affects your ability to connect remotely.

I've updated both of the RDS servers with new certificates that should update the warning we are seeing to a notification that looks like the pic below when you connect to your remote desktop, or remote application, depending on what you use:

It will still ask you to "Verify publisher" when you connect. This is a Microsoft security feature update that cannot be turned off right now.

You don't need to do the following steps immediately, as you can still connect with the existing RDP shortcut right now, but please do so when you are able in order to update you security settings:

  • Go to https://alb-rds-02.linnbenton.edu/rdweb if you use a full Remote Desktop, or https://alb-rds-01.linnbenton.edu/rdweb if you use Remote Apps (Banner, FileExplorer, Laserfiche).
  • Login and download the latest version of the shortcut and rename it to whatever you choose (Recommend you delete your old one first, or move it to an temporary location).
  • Right click the new shortcut > select 'Edit' > and set your display preference to either use all screens/monitors or just one and save the file
  • Open the RDP file and check all boxes as seen in the first picture at the top of this email. ***NOTE: As of right now, Windows is not caching the "Remember my choices for remote connections from this publisher" checkbox unfortunately, so the pop up notification may still show up each time you connect until this is patched.***
  • You should now connect as you normally do.

I've also attached the RDS Remote Desktop and RemoteApps instructions again as a visual reference if needed.

If you have followed each of these steps but are still not able to connect, please submit a ticket to ' staff.helpdesk@linnbenton.edu '.
